Work Work Work

Here’s to the never ending income. Searching for what I love to do became a full time job for awhile there. I mean I love a lot of things. I spent a lot of time in front of the computer searching, researching and I finally figured it out. It’s the research I love. That and having a problem with my computer and figuring out how to fix it, upgrade it and configure it so it’s mine all mine. I love looking through the pull down menus for options or preferences. Then I get to tweak things the way I want them. First thing, turn off ALL confirmation dialogs. Did I just delete that? Yes! Then why the hell do you ask me if I’m sure??? Default settings suck. Bill Gates and his bunch of hired thugs must think we are all idiots. Why else would they constantly warn us of the danger of our actions? If you close, move or delete something, why would any program ask if you want that closed, moved or deleted? It shows how much credit they give their customers.

There is a psychological equivalent to this way of thinking. Basically, I wouldn’t want to be part of any club that would have me? If we are stupid and we are buying their products what does that say about their products? I think they have a big complex over there in Redmond. Not the kind that describes a large group of buildings.

Bottom line, I get to go in, dissect the defaults and set things up for people who know what they’re doing. People with a modicum of foresight and competence. These are the people I can relate to. Unfortunately, most people are too busy to spend the kind of time I have in figuring these things out. For me, it’s a labor of love. That’s the kind of attention to detail I like to have in my work. So far, it pays. I have a feeling it’s the calm before the storm. I look forward to it. I will have a bench set up where I can work on five or six computers at the same time and Play Play Play!

My friends, I wish for you a lifetime of play at the things that keep you happy, at peace and joyous. That is a life worth living. Worth a little research.
