Tournament Stress
February 13th, 2004
Well, The Kid is doing great. He has won every match in the state tournament this year. Tomorrow the semi-finals. Chris is a senior so this is his last chance to take first in state in the 152 pound bracket. He came in fifth last year and wasn’t very happy with himself. He is his own toughest critic.
The team from Mesa High is looking pretty good too. Along with Chris, there is Pedro, Christian and Alberto, all going for first place. Pedro and Christian (160 and 215, respectively), are both seniors. Alberto, ‘Blue’ is a junior and is looking really good at 189 pounds. There are others on the team who went to state this year, ten altogether. These are all good kids who have worked really hard to be here. I wish them all the best.
One worth special mention has got to be Anthony Robles. He is this year’s 103 pounder. Not only is he doing really good as a sophomore, (in competition for third) he is doing it with one leg. There was a great write up on him in the Phoenix paper, it really doesn’t do him justice. I will link to it the next time I am at my home computer. He is a great kid. Nice, respectful and full of fire. I cant wait to see what he does these next two years.
The puppy made the trip home sleeping most of the way. He had several positions, mostly on my lap. He also spent time on my shoulders, that was fun except for the wet willies. I really hate those. When he was doing it, I was yelling at the top of my voice. It was really fun. I really love this little guy.
Life is good…
