Practice Makes Perfect

What to do, what to do. Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know a local icon. She would resent that title because she is a very young icon. Nonetheless, she has made a tremendous impact on me and many people here, in San Diego. Her name is Pattie Wells and if you are from SD and are into dancing, you know who she is. I met her when I was deeply into experiencing all types of meditation, healing, channeling and just about anything that would bring me closer to an understanding of who I am and why I am here. Anyway, Pattie was this very fun, happy, successful person who had such a glow about her, she shined! Being the curious type, I approached her to find out what her story was. Basically, she went to college and studied accounting but found her heart wasnt in it. She thought back to when she was the happiest and found dancing was her true passion. She taught dance for different studios until she decided to go out on her own. Because she truly loved what she was doing and people could see that, her classes grew. At the time I knew here, she was doing what she loved and had plenty of time for her other loves, her toy poodles and her computers. I wonder what she would think of the geek I have turned into. Probably have a good laugh about it. Pattie taught me something I have carried to this day. If you love what you are doing, people will respond to that passion.
Years later, I still wonder what it is I love that much. The truth is, I love many things. Reading a good book, talking to people about spiritual growth. Telling my story regarding how I got to where I am now. Watching movies to see what lessons they have for me in that moment. When I see this in print, I see a common thread, do you? Stories and sharing. I believe if I could share stories about how I learned what I believe, I can help others reach understandings about their own growth. I would be the happiest person around if I could help even one person achieve a level of inner peace such as I have known.
Since I was a child, reading books out of the school library, I have been in love with stories. I have always felt there were stories in this head and I would really love to get them out on paper and share them. For many years, the excuse was I didnt have the time. Another excuse was my lack of skills with the medium of writing. I am so bad at handwriting, I cant even read what I write! Being lazy (I prefer efficient) I could not conceive of writing a whole story by hand. The first time I learned to type I was the ripe old age of nine, sixteen the second time. Both times I got up to about 40 words per minute. I didnt have my own typewriter so I didnt keep in practice. Then in my mid thirties, I got my first computer. I played lots of games and did things that didnt need typing skills. Writing stories was the last thing on my mind. When I first went online I had completely forgot how to type and was forced to hunt and peck my way around the keyboard. After several years of that, I took the time to relearn the keyboard. I had a computer, could type fairly well and had enough time, if I so choose. I was fresh out of excuses. I still procrastinated for a long time. Even to this day. However, writing this blog is the start. I know some words and how to type them. I simply have no writing practice. I have been practicing for about a week now. Pretty fun and I think I am getting better at it.
Thanks for participating in my practice.
